Flight Foundations
If you think you may wish to become an airplane pilot, whether for fun, looking for a challenge or as a career, this program may be for you. It is designed to provide insight into the knowledge required to obtain a pilot’s license by covering some of the basic topics all pilots are required to learn. The combination of ground sessions and one or more familiarization flights may assist participants in assessing the commitment level required to pursue this endeavor.
Flying an airplane is a new dimension and perspective on life. Whether you think you want to be a pilot, or just want to experience something new, being up in the air can inspire new ways of thinking in all areas of your life. The best pilots are always learning.

Location
The ground sessions will be held at a location in town, with all students together. Parents are encouraged to join for the intro and final check point sessions, and invited to join any of the other sessions if they wish.
The familiarization flights will be scheduled individually, and will be from the Blue Sky Flights office at the hangar (directions here).
Flights can be scheduled for the student to fly with their parent (1 parent per flight), or coordinated to pair two students together. If two students are paired together, they would go up in the air twice for each flight – once in the back seat and once in the front seat.
This is not intended as flight training, it is familiarization to a small airplane and the movements you can expect if you were to go away to do flight training. Flights will be conducted by our Commercial Pilots, some of whom hold an FAA flight instructor rating.
Please note our Child Protection Policy, which requires a waiver to be signed if two children fly together without their parent/guardian.
Dates
The ground sessions will run in January/February 2026. We are collecting preferences for a weekday evening or Saturday late afternoon ground sessions, and will go with the majority availability. Please indicate all possible days that you could attend.

For our first programs in winter 2026, the pricing will be:
